Founded one hundred fourteen years ago on October 20th, 1901 by Central European immigrants to the United States, the congregation was originally located in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago. In 1957, the congregation relocated to its present site at 250 Woodside Road (31st and DesPlaines) in the near western suburb of Riverside where today its ministry spans a broad geographic and social landscape.
The congregation is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Slovak Zion Synod. We hope you will worship with us at Sts. Peter and Paul so that our life together might more fully represent “the fullness of him who fills all in all” (Ephesians 1:23). You are invited to contact our pastor or office staff to obtain further information about the congregation and its programs or to arrange for a visit.
We are called together by the Holy Spirit around Word and sacraments to glorify God the Father, creator of all things, through our Lord Jesus Christ. We trust God to nurture lives of faith and hope, as we serve and give witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ for the salvation of the world. As members of Sts. Peter and Paul Church, we believe that God loves and cares for all people through Jesus Christ and his Church. In response to God’s love, we seek to do the following:
• Worship and share God’s Word of grace and forgiveness through the proclamation of the Good News and the celebration of the sacraments.
• Engage in evangelism by responding to the needs of one another, our communities and the world so that the Gospel might be shared and the needs of humankind addressed.
• Provide Christian formation and growth in faith through quality educational opportunities for all ages.
• Be good stewards of our gifts by encouraging people to practice ministry in their daily lives and caring for the church’s ministries with their gifts.
